College Football: AP Top 25 Rankings In Week 5

AP Top 25

NORMAN, Okla., Sporting Alert – Ohio State remains the No. 1 team in the latest edition of the AP Top 25 College Football rankings, released on Sunday.

The Buckeyes, who improved to 4-0 on the season with a 38-12 win at home against Western Michigan on Saturday, received 45 of the 61 first place votes from the voting panel, while collecting 1482 points.

Michigan State which received five first place votes stayed No. 2 in the rankings, with Ole Miss which collected 10 of the first place votes, staying No. 3.

The top five is completed by TCU at No. 4 and Baylor at No. 5.

Notre Dame remained sixth, UCLA, on the back of its 56-30 win at Arizona, moved two places up to No. 7, but Georgia and LSU both slipped one place each to 8th and 9th, respectively.

Moving the biggest in AP top 25 in Week 4 and rightfully so was Utah which even received one of the votes to be the No. 1 team in the country.

The Utes (4-0), who were ranked 18th in last week’s poll, shockingly went to Eugene and handed then-No. 13 Oregon its worst defeat at home since 1977.

On the back of that commanding 62-20 victory, Utah moved eight-places to No. 10, their highest ranking in program history.

Oklahoma State (4-0) jumped four slots to No. 20 after holding on for a tight 30-27 win at Texas in Big 12 action, while the Oklahoma Sooners, who were on a bye this past weekend, stayed at No. 15.

Meanwhile, Oregon (13), Arizona (16), Georgia Tech (20), BYU (22) and Missouri (25) paid the price for going down in Week 4, as they were all dumped from the AP top 25 poll.

The newcomers in Sunday’s Week 5 release were: Mississippi State (3-1), at No. 21, Michigan (3-1) at No. 22, West Virginia (3-0) at No. 23, California (4-0) in the 24th place and Florida (4-0) as the 25th ranked team in the nation.
