College Football Playoff Rankings – Top 25 Week 2

TULSA, OK, Sporting Alert – Clemson stays atop the second College Football Playoff Rankings – Top 25, which was released on Tuesday night.

The Tigers, who defeated Florida States 23-13 in their high-profile ACC Atlantic clash to stay undefeated and improved to 9-0 on Saturday, expectedly remain the front runner this week.

After putting away LSU 30-16 over the weekend, Alabama moved up two places to No. 2, with the Tigers (7-1), who were No. 2 in last week’s CFP rankings falling seven places to No. 9 this week.

The Crimson Tide (8-1) will take on No. 17 Mississippi State in their next fixture and they are expected to be tested for the second successive week.

Despite suffering a defeat this season, Alabama has been rewarded for the body of work it has done, after playing five top 25 ranked teams already and winning four of them.

Defending champion Ohio State (9-0) is still holding down the No. 3 slot, while Notre Dame (8-1) has capitalised on LSU’s failure to beat Alabama, as the Fighting Irish moved into the top four after being No. 5 last week.

Interestingly, for the second successive weeks, there was no place for the undefeated Big 12 teams, as both Baylor and Oklahoma State were left out of the College Football Playoff Rankings top four.

Iowa (9-0) takes the place of Notre Dame at No. 5, even though the Bears (9-0) were No. 6 last week and stayed undefeated with a 31-24 against Kansas State.

Baylor is holding at No. 6, while Stanford (8-1) jumped four places to No. 7, Oklahoma State climbed six places to No. 8, LSU is at No. 9 and Utah (8-1) up two slots to complete the top 10.

Meanwhile, after losing 45-20 to Navy, Memphis (8-1) dipped eight places to No. 21.
