Washington State vs Houston scores week 3

College Football Week 3 Scores On Sept. 13

NEW YORK, Sporting Alert – Scores and results from the College Football games that were played on Friday night to open the Week 3 schedule.

No. 20 Washington State was the only AP ranked team in action on Friday night and they won the battle between the Cougars after picking up a 31-24 victory over Houston (1-2) to secure their third successive win of the season.

Anthony Gordon threw for 440 yards and three touchdowns in the win for Washington State (3-0), while completing 36 of 48 passes with one interception on the night.

The senior quarterback has now tallied 1,324 passing yards with 12 touchdowns from three games, which tops the FBS this season.

Contributing as well in Friday night’s victory were Brandon Arconado, who had nine receptions for 115 yards and Max Borghi, who had 61 yards receiving and ran nine times for an additional 40 yards and a score.

Washington State started slowly and trailed 14-7 at halftime, but managed to pick things up in the second half.

“We were a little out of control in the first half,” Gordon said.

“We had some positive plays, but we were kind of stepping on our own feet taking penalties and me taking a sack … we relaxed and trusted our game plan. I went through my reads and gave my playmakers the ball.”

D’Eriq King went 13 of 24 on passes for 128 yards and a touchdown and ran for another 94 yards and two scores for Houston.

Marquez Stevenson caught a pass for the Houston, which struggled to move the ball in the second half.

“We don’t want moral victories or any of that … we didn’t play good enough to win,” Houston’s Dana Holgorsen said.

“[We] Didn’t make enough plays and the ball didn’t bounce our way enough for us to come out of here with a win and that needs to happen next week.”

Meanwhile, Jamie Newman tallied three touchdowns, including two on the ground and had two big plays to help Wake Forest hold off North Carolina’s comeback attempt for a 24-18 win.

Elsewhere, Kansas shocked Boston College 48-24 for its first road win over a Power 5 school in nearly 11 years.
