Davis Scored 20, SMU Tops Temple 79-68

DALLAS, TX — Kendric Davis scored 20 points and led four SMU players in double-digit scoring and the Mustangs beat Temple 79-68 in an American Athletic Conference fixture on Monday. BOX SCORE

The win saw SMU snapped a two-game losing streak.

Davis added eight assists, four rebounds, and two steals and shot 6 of 13 from the field.

Feron Hunt had 18 points and 11 rebounds, Emmanuel Bandoumel finished with 16 points and seven, and Ethan Chargois ended with 12 points, five assists, and three rebounds for the Mustangs (7-2, 3-2  American Athletic Conference).

Damian Dunn paced Temple with 17 points and five assists, while Brendan Barry also scored 17 points in the defeat.

J.P. Moorman II scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds and De’Vondre Perry ended with seven points and five boards for the Owl (1-3, 0-3), who lost three straight.

Did SMU Cover The Spread?

The 147 combined points total was slightly above the betting tips’ over-under 142 points, while the 11-point victory for SMU, was one point under the spread of -12 for the Mustangs before tip-off.

SMU jumped out to a 16-8 lead on a Hunt jumper with 13:20 left in the first half and led 23-11 midway through the opening period.

Temple chipped away at the score and was able to pull within two points at 33-31 in the final few minutes of the first half before SMU entered the break with a 37-34 advantage.

The Mustangs went on to build a nine-point lead early in the second half before controlling the game and then pulled away.

SMU shot 42.6% from the field, made 11 3-pointers, and outrebounded Temple 44-31, as the Owls shot 39.3% in the loss.

The victory on Monday meant SMU improved to 2-0 against Temple this season. The Mustangs defeated the Owls 79-71 on Dec. 30.
