PARIS — Results and scores from Day One of the 2014 French Open at Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France on Sunday.
Among the winners on Sunday on the men’s side were top-10 seeds, No. 1 Roger Federer, No. 6 Tomas Berdych, No. 8 Milos Raonic and No. 10 John Isner.
In fact, Federer cruised into the second round with a 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Lukas Lacko to get the ball rolling on the day, as he seeks to add to his collection of major titles.
No. 13 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga beat Edouard Roger-Vasselin, while the 15th-seeded Mikhail Youzhny defeated Pablo Carreno Busta.
On the women’s side, defending champion and the No. 1 seeded Serena Williams, as well as her sister Venus, the No. 29 seed, were both winners in the first round.
Serena breezed into the second round with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Alize Lim, while Venus picked up a 6-4, 6-1 win over Belinda Bencic.
No. 3 seed Agnieszka Radwanska and the 8th-seeded Angelique Kerber also recorded victories on the women’s side in the first round.
