LONDON (Sporting Alert) — Cesc Fabregas has chosen to join Chelsea for the coming season from Barcelona and Spanish international says he chose the Blues because his former club Arsenal did not want him back.
Fabregas left Arsenal to join Barcelona in 2011, but struggled to settle in the Spanish giants’ setup.
Arsene Wenger had first choice to resigned his former captain, but the Frenchman decided against bring back the 27-year-old, who had also been linked with Manchester United and Manchester City.
“I considered all the other offers very carefully and I firmly believe that Chelsea is the best choice,” Fabregas said.
“They match my footballing ambitions with their hunger and desire to win trophies. They have an amazing squad of players and an incredible manager.
“I am fully committed to this team and I can’t wait to start playing.”
Fabregas, who is currently with Spain national team at the World Cup in South Africa, is seen as the perfect replacement for the outgoing Frank Lampard, who was not offered a new deal on his expiring contract.
