MAY 30 — The FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015 tournament gets underway in New Zealand on Saturday with USA, Argentina, the hosts and Ghana all in action on the opening day.
New Zealand and Ukraine kick-start the tournament at the North Harbour Stadium, in Auckland, with the score ending 0-0.
USA will start favourites to beat Myanmar when the North Americans get their Group A opening fixture underway at the Northland Events Centre in Whangarei.
The Americans had to work hard to seal their place in the tournament, but the squad is confident about stepping things up as they prepare for what could well turnout to be a very tricky group opening contest.
Meanwhile, six-time champions Argentina will also get their tournament campaign on the road when they take on Panama in Wellington.
The South American giants have been in good form during their preparation for tournament and head coach Humberto Grondona expects his team to be difficult opponents for a Panama team, which is still searching for its first victory in the tournament.
“I think we go into the event in great shape,” Grondona said on FIFA.com.
“The bar has been set very high after winning the South American Youth Championship, but the lads are raring to go.
“Here’s hoping they finish the job we’ve started. I’ve put together a group of lads who play really good stuff,” added Grondona.
Elsewhere on day one of the FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015 tournament, Ghana, who finished third in the last edition in Turkey 2013, will battle with Austria.
