PORTLAND (November 24) —— Souley Boum and Colby Jones each scored 22 points to guide Xavier to a 90-83 win over Florida in the opening round of the 2022 Phil Knight Legacy at Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Thursday.

Jones also shot 8 of 12 from the field overall and hit 4 shots from 3-pointers to go with five rebounds and four assists. Boum went 7 of 14 from the floor and also added six assists and five rebounds in the win for the Musketeers (4-1) who bounced back from the 81-79 defeat to No. 12 Indiana last Friday night.
Jack Nunge added 16 points and nine rebounds, Zach Freemantle made all five of his shots to finish with 14 points and 11 rebounds and Kunkel finished with 11 points for Xavier, which had five starters reach double-figure scoring.
Making his first start since transferring from VMI, Trey Bonham scored 23 points to lead the way for Florida (3-2) while Will Richard, a Belmont transfer, hit four 3-pointers and added 18 points and seven rebounds in the loss.
Colin Castleton, who entered the game averaging 25.3 points per game, was restricted to 11 points today, but also grabbed 10 rebounds and four assists, with Riley Kugel scoring 12 points for the Gators, who dropped two of the last three games.
Xavier led 42-38 at halftime and was ahead by as many as 11 points in the second half.
However, the Musketeers had their lead trimmed to one possession three times down the stretch, the last with 3:14 to play. Xavier ended the game shooting 56% overall, and made 10 of 20 from long distance.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Another Florida team in action on Thanksgiving Day was Florida State and the Seminoles fellow to Siena, 80-63 at the ESPN Events Invitational for a first win against a Power 5 team in eight years.
Andrew Platek scored a career-high 20 points where he shot 7 for 9 overall and made 5 of 6 shots from 3-pointers, and Javian McCollum added 18 with a career-high eight assists for Siena on Thursday.
Jackson Stormo, who made all four of his shots today ended with 10 points for the Saints (3-2) who shot 52% overall and 41% from 3-pointers.
Matthew Cleveland had 14 points and six rebounds for Florida State with Cam’Ron Fletcher adding 13 points and six boards in the defeat. Caleb Mills scored 11 points for the Seminoles, who shot 36% from the field and was just under 27% from the 3-point range.
