Hart, Mata Make Champions League Team of the Week

Juan Mata

MANCHESTER, Sporting Alert – European victories scored by Manchester United and Manchester City on Matchday Two have seen two Premier League players named in the Champions League Team of the Week.

Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart and Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata who both featured well for their respective clubs, were the players included in the team named by UEFA.com.

Mata scored and made an assist in the Red Devils’ comeback 2-1 win over German Bundesliga side Wolfsburg at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

The Spaniard first slotted home nicely from the penalty spot after winning the spot-kick, following a handball inside the penalty area.

The former Chelsea playmaker then impressively backheeled a ball into the six-yard box to setup defender Chris Smalling, who swept home the winner for the Premier League leaders.

Hart was also very effective for the Citizens in the battling 2-1 win on the road against Mönchengladbach on Wednesday.

The England international pulled off a number of saves to help keep his side in the contest after falling behind, before the Premier League outfits went on to score two late goals and take the three points.

Heading the list in the Matchday Two Team of the Week are Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo and Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.

Ronaldo netted twice at Malmo to take his tally to five goals in two Champions League matches this season en route to scoring his 500th career goal for both club and country.

Lewandowski, who is one of two Bayern Munich players in the Team of the Week, scored a hat-trick in the 5-0 home win against Dinamo Zagreb, which sees him scoring 10 goals in three games in all competitions.

Brazilian winger Douglas Costa is the other Bayern player on the list.

Nicolás Gaitán (Benfica), David Luiz (Paris Saint-Germain) and Hulk (Zenit) were also in the team.
