Ohio State was playing without head coach Urban Meyer, who is serving a three-game university-imposed suspension.
Following a somewhat slow start, the Buckeyes broke loose to dominate the game, as Haskins completed 22 of 30 passes for 313 yards with five touchdowns.
The five touchdown passes and yards gained by the spirited arm sophomore are records for a first-time Ohio State starter.
Also impressing in the comfortable win for the Buckeyes was junior running back Mike Weber, who carried the ball 20 times for 186 yards and three touchdowns.
Weber also took a catch in the first half for a score.
Terry McLaurin finished with two scores for 121 yards in the air.
Oregon State quarterback Conor Blount threw for 169 yards and found Trevon Bradford for two touchdowns, while Artavis Pierce rushed 11 times for 168 yards and two scores for the Beavers in the defeat.
