Game stats, reports and highlights as No. 7 Kansas secured a narrow 73-72 victory over No. 8 Creighton in Tuesday’s Big East-Big 12 Battle at Allen Fieldhouse.
Jalen Wilson Wilson collected a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds, but after making the go-ahead 3-pointer for Kansas with 42 seconds left, fouled the Creighton’s Marcus Zegarowski on a 3-point attempt at the other end.
However, after making the first two from charity line, Zegarowski miss the third attempt, as the Jayhawks (5-1) escaped with the win an extended their winning streak to five games since losing to No. 1 Gonzaga in the season opener.
Christian Braun added 14 points, while David McCormack ended 13 points for Kansas, which secured it fifth straight against the Bluejays.
Denzel Mahoney, who gave Creighton (3-1) a chance down the stretch when he made a 3-pointer with 1:22 left to get the Bluejays within 70-68, finished 19 points and five rebounds to pace the travelers.
Zegarowski finished with 16 points, Christian Bishop added 13 points, nine rebounds and three blocks and Damien Jefferson had 13 points and six boards in the defeat as the Bluejays had their three game winning streak snapped.
Creighton and Kansas return to action on Friday.
The Bluejays will return home hoping to bounce back against Nebraska, while the Jayhawks take on Omaha in their search for a fifth straight win.
