Nahiem Alleyne and Jalen Cone each connected for five 3-pointers and scored 18 points apiece to lead the way for Virginia Tech (6-1), which shot 20 for 37 from beyond the arc.
Alleyne was 5 of 9 from long range and 6 of 11 overall from the field to go with four rebounds, while Cone went 6 of 12 overall and made 5 of 11 from 3s off the bench. Cone also had four boards in the win.
Keve Aluma added 12 points and seven rebounds and Hunter Cattoor finished with 11 points and five assists for the Hokies, who were winning for the second straight game, and had eight players making at least one 3-pointer on the night.
Anthony Tarke scored 19 points on 7 of 19 shooting with four steals for Coppin State (1-6) and Isaiah Gross added 12 points off the bench.
Coppin State, which has just one win this season, an 86-80 victory over UNC Greensboro on Dec. 10, was losing two straight.
Koby Thomas had a team high seven rebounds with four steals before fouling out of the game, while Kenan Sarvan grabbed six boards for the travelers who shot 36.4% (20-55) overall and went 5 for 26 from 3-pointers
Virginia Tech, which beat No. 24 Clemson on Tuesday, led 39-22 at halftime and then outscored the Eagles 58-35 after the break to pull away for the comfortable victory.
The Hokies shot 51.7% on 30 of 58 overall and outrebounded the Eagles 43-29. They entered the weekend fixtures as the only team in the Atlantic Coast Conference with two wins over ranked teams this season.
Prior to beating Clemson, they also took down then-No. 3 Villanova, 81-73 in overtime on Nov. 29.
