Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni makes five changes from the defeat to Saudi Arabia in the World Cup opener for today’s game against Mexico as the South Americans look to keep their spot in the tournament with a win today.
Most of the adjustments have come in defence as only Nicolas Otamendi keeps his place in the teams from the last game. This means, Nahuel Molina, Christian Romero and Nicolas Tagliafico are all droppred to the bench.
Also missing out today in the starting team are Leandro Parades and Alejandro Gomez, who are also named as substitutes.
Manchester United centre-back Lisandro Martinez comes into the back line to play alongside Otamendi with Gonzalo Montiel and Marcos Acuna also coming into the side as well. Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister also starts, and Guido Rodriguez rounded out the five changes.
Meanwhile, for Mexico, who are seeking their first win against Argentina in the last 10 games in all competitions, there are three changes to the starting team that played out a goalless draw with Poland in the Group C opener.
Nestor Araujo, Kevin Alvarez and Andres Guardado, who takes the captain’s armband, come into the lineup today and they replaced Jorge Sanchez, Edson Alvarez and Henry Martin who are named among the substitutes.
