MANCHESTER, Sporting Alert — Sky Sports is reporting that Manchester United and Chelsea are locked in a battle for the signature of Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic, which could spark a transfer tussle during the summer.
According to Sky sources, Manchester United have already made an offer of €35m, which is expected to be rejected by the Italian Serie A side.
It is understood Inter Milan value Perisic between €55m and €60m and would want to use his sale to fund a transfer move for Real Madrid playmaker James Rodriguez.
Jose Mourinho is hoping to bolster his side with more pace on the flank and the 28-year-old is apparently seen as the ideal fit for the Portuguese coach.
According to WhoScored.com player evaluation, Perisic “has no significant weaknesses,” which could very well help him to adapt quickly to life in the English Premier League, should a deal for him go through.
The Croatia international featured mostly on the left wing, but is also capable of playing on either side of the flank — a Mourinho type of player.
He is also very strong on the counter-attack, which is another reason for the Manchester United manager pushing to sign him.
Premier League champions Chelsea are also said to be interesting in Perisic, with Sky in Italy reporting on Sunday that Antonio Conte sees the midfielder as a very good fit for his squad.
Perisic had 10 goals and nine assists in the Serie A this past season.
The battle to recruit players for the forthcoming season is usually the main focus coming off a previous campaign and you shouldn’t expect anything less in this summer’s transfer window.
