OLD TRAFFORD, Sporting Alert – As reported earlier today, talented midfielder Andreas Pereira starts for Manchester United in today’s Capital One Cup 3rd round tie against Ipswich Town at Old Trafford.
Pereira has been very impressive in training recently and manager Louis van Gaal has decided to reward the Brazilian with a place in the starting lineup against the Championship side.
The 19-year-old will play alongside the likes of Juan Mata, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera in a very strong Manchester United midfield.
Wayne Rooney will lead the attacking line, as expected, with Anthony Martial back on the bench, given that Van Gaal already stated that he would not be playing the 19-year-old in every game.
David de Gea stays in goal, with Sergio Romero on the bench, while Chris Smalling and Daley Blind keeping their spots at centre-back.
Antonia Valencia comes into the starting XI to play at right-back with Matteo Darmian on the bench.
Morgan Schneiderlin, Memphis Depay, Michael Carrick and Phil Jones are all available as substitutes from the bench as well.
However, Manchester United fans are still trying to understand why Van Gaal decided to leave out young forward James Wilson out of the match day squad.
“I am still scratching my head. You would think this would be the ideal game to give young Wilson a runout after deciding against sending him out on loan,” one United fan said, after the news broke on Tuesday that the English striker wasn’t in the squad for the game.
The battle tonight sees a rematch between van Gaal and Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy, this time at the club level. The met met last at the international level when McCarthy guided Ireland past Van Gaal’s Netherlands in a World Cup qualifying game in 2001.
