SYDNEY, Australia (Sporting Alert) — Manchester United manager David Moyes wants his team to deliver a better performance against the Foxtel A-League All Stars in Sydney on Saturday.
The English Premier League champs, despite dominating for most of the game, and especially the second half, were shocked 1-0 by a Singha All-Star XI in Bangkok last weekend and Moyes is demanding a better performance from his team.
“I want to see us step up from where we were in Thailand,” Moyes said during his press conference in Sydney.
“I thought in general our fitness was fine in difficult conditions but I want to see the play improve.
“We had opportunities to score and I’d like to see that improve.
“We also gave away a few chances to the opposition in the first half, which I didn’t like, and I want that to improve as well.”
Several of the United star players, including star striker Robin van Persie and David de Gea have joined the team and Moyes is hoping things will begin to come together as they move towards the start of the season.
After impressing in the first pre-season game, Adnan Januzaj could keep his place in the starting line-up, while winger Wilfried Zaha could start after his impressive performance as a second half substitute.
“We’re heading towards Swansea City on the first day of the season and, a week before that, the Community Shield,” he said.
“Saturday’s game is important but it’s not the most important thing in the overall picture.”
Moyes is expected to make changes on Saturday for the game which starts at 10:30 BST, 4:30 ET.
