SINGAPORE, Sporting Alert — Man Utd 1-0 Inter Milan RESULT: Mason Greenwood scored the only goal and Manchester United made a winning start in their 2019 International Champions Cup campaign, following a 1-0 win over Inter Milan at the Singapore National Stadium on Saturday.
Three From Three For Man United
Saturday’s victory saw the Red Devils making it three wins in three pre-season games this season after positive results against Perth Glory and Leeds, respectively.
Both teams finished a lively first half 0-0, but the English Premier League, which suited out the liked of Paul Pogba, David de Gea and summer recruits Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, had several chances to take the lead.
However, Manchester United finally got a deserved breakthrough as from Ashley Young’s inswinging free-kick was punched by Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic, but his clearance fell straight to the feet of Greenwood.
The 17-year-old, who came off the bench to replace Rashford in the attack, turned an Inter Milan defender before firing home a well-struck left-footed curler into the back of the net in the 76th minute, much to the delight of his teammates.
The teenage forward was scoring for the second time in just a few days after he netted in United’s win over Leeds in Perth.
Greenwood could have doubled the lead moments later, but his clever finish off a cross from Tahith Chong hit the top of the bar.
Manchester United continued to dominate after the goal and in the 82nd minute Young put a delightful ball inside the box for a travelling Juan Mata to latched on to, but the Spanish international couldn’t direct his shot on goal.
Manchester United will continue their pre-season tour against Tottenham on Thursday at the Hongkou Stadium in China.
