Mason Rudolph Throws 5 TDs, No. 9 Oklahoma State Routs Pitt 59-21

PITTSBURGH, Sporting Alert — Mason Rudolph passed for 497 yards and five touchdowns and No. 9 Oklahoma State used a powerful first half to rout Pittsburgh 59-21 in a college football game at Heinz Field on Saturday.

Rudolph, who threw all five TD passes in a blistering first-half performance, connected three times for touchdowns with Jalen McCleskey, who took seven catches overall for 162 yards for the visitors who jumped out to a 35-0 lead for the home side got on the scoreboard.

The Heisman Trophy candidate also threw TD passes to Marcell Ateman, who had four catches for 109 yards and Dillon Stoner, who caught five passes for 100 yards for the Pokes, who led 49-14 at halftime.

Rudolph completed 23 of 32 tosses and threw his first pick of the season, which ended a streak of 216 consecutive passes without an interception, dating back to last season.

He was replaced by Taylor Cornelius in the middle of the third quarter.

Cornelius went 3 of 5 for 75 yards to close out the game.

James Washington added 124 yards receiving and Justice Hill ran for two scores and 91 yards for the Cowboys (3-0), who tallied 572 yards passing on their way to improving to 2-0 away from home.

Sophomore Ben Dinucci threw for 228 yards and a touchdown but was also picked off twice for Pittsburgh (1-2) which struggled to keep up at home.

Dinucci replaced graduate transfer quarterback Max Browne, who went 7 of 10 for 60 yards and lasted just over a quarter of the game.

Rafael Araujo-Lopes had 89 yards reception with one touchdown, while Chawntez Moss had the lone scoring touchdown catch for the Panthers, who were outgained 676-391 and finished behind Oklahoma State in first downs, 27-17.

Up next, Oklahoma State will entertain No. 20 TCU in its Big 12 opener next Saturday, hoping to extend its two-game winning streak over the Horned Frogs.

Meanwhile, Pittsburgh will open its Atlantic Coast Conference play at Georgia Tech next Saturday.
