Riley Ferguson, Memphis Upset Josh Rosen, No. 25 UCLA 48-45

MEMPHIS, Tenn., Sporting Alert – Riley Ferguson threw for 398 yards and six touchdowns and Memphis upset No. 25 UCLA 48-45 win at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

Ferguson, who completed 23 of 38 passes with an interception, connected twice with Anthony Miller for touchdowns and also threw scoring passes to Joey Magnifico, Patrick Taylor Jr., Tony Pollard and Phil Mayhue.

Miller had nine receptions for 185 yards and Magnifico took six catches for 83 yards for the Tigers (2-0), who won it at the end after Jacobi Francis broke up a fourth-down pass in the closing 56 seconds of the game.

UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen finished with 463 yards on 34 of 56 throws and four TD passes with two interceptions and ran for another score in the defeat.

Darren Andrews caught 10 passes for 175 yards and a touchdown, while Jordan Lasley, Austin Roberts and Jordan Wilson also pulled down scoring passes for the Bruins (2-1).

Roberts’ 22-yard touchdown with 11:51 to go in the fourth quarter, gave UCLA a 45-41 lead, but Ferguson and Mayhue combined from three yards to put Memphis back up with 9:56 left and the Tigers then held on for the win.

Next up for UCLA is its opening Pac-12 conference game on the road at No. 19 Stanford next Saturday. This game comes after the Bruins opened the season with three non-conference games.

Meanwhile, Memphis will next face Southern Illinois next Saturday at home next Saturday.
