Sioux City, Iowa (Sporting Alert, Box Scores) — No. 9 Viterbo (Wis.) upset No. 1 Rocky Mountain College in an NAIA Volleyball National Championships quarterfinal on Friday.
Viterbo (39-8) picked up a 25-23, 18-25, 27-25, 25-21 result over Rocky Mountain College for a comfortable 3-1 outcome at Tyson Event Center.
Alicia Olson finished with 27 kills and 12 digs, while Sara Biermaier collected 13 kills and Natalie Geidel added 12 for the V-Hawks.
Jennifer Krentz had 37 digs, Jess Jerde ended with 20, with Brianna Brinkman leading the way with 54 attacks in the victory for Viterbo, who setup a semifinal battle with No. 4 Texas at Brownsville (33-4), who swept No. 5 Missouri Baptist (38-4), 3-0.
The Ocelots, national champions in two of the last three seasons, eased to a 25-14, 25-18, 25-18 victory to continue their quest to secure another national title.
On the same night, No. 2 Park University (Mo.) (38-0) defeated No. 7 Concordia (Calif.) (34-4), 3-1 to stay undefeated on the season.
Park University will now face No. 3 Biola (Calif.) (32-4) in Match 2 of the semifinals on Saturday.
The Pirates came from a set down to win the match 21-25, 25-22, 25-11, 25-22.
Biola beat No. 11 Eastern Oregon (30-6), 3-1 in their quarterfinal contest.
The Eagles came away 26-24, 20-25, 25-13, 25-20 winners on the night and will be hoping to hand Park their first defeat of the season when the pair meet in Match 1 of the semis on Saturday.
