JAZZ 90, LA LAKERS 71
HONOLULU — Kobe Bryant scored five points in his first appearance since his surgery as the Los Angeles Lakers went down 90-71 to the Utah Jazz in a preseason game on Sunday.
Bryant, who underwent surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff, played 12 minutes in the preseason opener for the LA Lakers and was 1-for-5 from the floor.
Derrick Favors, who scored 12 of his total points in the first half, paced the Jazz with 16 points and nine rebounds, with four others scoring in double digits.
Gordon Hayward finished with 11 points and nine rebounds, Rudy Gobert scored 10 points and eight boards, and Trey Burke added 10 points, five rebounds and three assists in the win for Utah.
Reserve guard Lou Williams, the NBA Sixth Man of the Year from last term while playing with Toronto, led the Lakers with 14 points, with Nick Young, the only other Los Angeles player to score in double figures, ending with 10 points off the bench as well.
Forward Julius Randle, who didn’t play last year after suffering a season-ending injury, was happy to be back on the court again on Sunday, and he started and played 21 minutes.
Randle finished with seven points and seven rebounds, while rookie point guard D’Angelo Russell also started and played 21 minutes – finishing the contest with five points, three rebounds, two assists.
RAPTORS 93, LA CLIPPERS 73
VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Kyle Lowry scored 26 points in 21 minutes, and the Toronto Raptors easily put away the Los Angeles Clippers 93-73 in preseason action on Sunday.
Lowry, who admitted to using the bulk of the summer to work on his fitness and his health, was noticeably slender on Sunday night. The All-Star point guard was 7 for 10 from the floor and 11 for 12 from the free throw line.
Luis Scola grabbed 13 points and eight rebounds, DeMar DeRozan finished with 11 points and six rebounds and Jonas Valanciunas collected 10 points and 12 boards for the Raptors.
JJ Redick scored 15 points on 5-for-9 shooting to lead the Los Angeles Clippers, with forward Blake Griffin ending with 14.
HORNETS 90, HEAT 77
MIAMI — Brian Roberts score 21 points in a reserve role and the Charlotte Hornets eased to a 90-77 victory over the Miami Heat on Sunday.
Roberts, who shot 6-for-11 from the field, including 3-for-4 from three-point range, connected on all six of his three throws as well.
Kemba Walker added 17 points and Jeremy Lin scored 10 off the bench in the victory for the Hornets, who were without Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, who dislocated his right shoulder in Saturday’s preseason win over the Orlando Magic.
Chris Bosh returned to the Miami Heat starting lineup after missing the final 30 games last season because of blood clots.
He scored 14 points and seven rebounds in 23 minutes.
Gerald Green and Amare Stoudemire, who were both making their debuts for Miami, joined Dwyane Wade with 12 points in the defeat.
