NFL Preseason Scores In Week 3 On Aug. 28

KANSAS CITY, Sporting Alert – NFL preseason scores in Week 3 from the games that took place on Friday night, August, 28.

In Jacksonville, Matthew Stafford and Zach Zenner were impressive for the Detroit Lions in their 22-17 victory over the Jaguars.

Stafford went 11-of-15 passes for 173 yards without an interception and two touchdowns to help the Lions secured its second win of the preseason schedule and improved to 2-1 in the warmups.

Rookie Zach Zenner rushed eight times for 85 yards and scored the game-winning touchdown, while Golden Tate took three catches for 91 yards and a score in the win for the Lions.

For the Jaguars, Blake Bortles completed 20-of-29 for 245 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 38 yards in the defeat.

The hosts took a 14-0 lead in the second quarter, but the travelers rallied afterwards through Stafford, who helped to start the comeback by finding Tate with a 62 yard pass before connecting with Corey Fuller to cut the gap to 14-13 at halftime.

Despite the win, Lions coach Jim Caldwell believes there is still work to be done, especially in defense, as his team struggled to close down Bortles, while the visitors’ receivers enjoyed a lot of success.

“We have to get better. That’s a fact,” Caldwell said about his defense after the game on www.detroitlions.com.

“Sometimes you need an outing like that to kind of wake you up. It’s good that we got the win, but I can guarantee you one thing, we better get better in a hurry.”

In another game on Friday night, Alex Smith and the Kansas City Chiefs got the better of Marcus Mariota and the Tennessee Titans in a 34-10 domination at Arrowhead Stadium.

Smith ended the night with 16 of 18 for 171 yards and two touchdowns in less than a half, while his backup for the night, Aaron Murray, finished with 15 of 20 for 146 yards and two touchdowns and an interception, after taking over late in the first half.
