MIAMI, Fla. (Sporting Alert) — The following is the list of NFL games taking place in Week 1 on Sunday, as a host of title contenders look to get their respective season off to a winning start.

Defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks started the defense of their crown with an impressive 36-16 victory over the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night’s opening fixture of the new season.

There are 13 more games on the fixture for Sunday, including the clash between the Indianapolis Colts and the Denver Broncos at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

This game will be Week 1 primetime “Sunday Night Football” clash and it will be televised live on NBC, as well as shown live online at NBC Sports, starting at 8:30 PM ET.

The game will also see Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos looking to start a new campaign, this after being embarrassed 43-8 in Super Bowl XLVIII last season by the Seahawks.

Elsewhere on Sunday, the Carolina Panthers are hoping that star quarterback Cam Newton will recover in time from his ankle surgery to start the opening game of the season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Newton, although practicing fully during Friday’s session, is also still recovering from fracturing his ribs two weeks ago and team head coach Ron Rivera will wait until Sunday morning to make the final decision.

“Cam took all of his reps today (Friday),” Rivera said. “He did throw. He was with the first offense and looked pretty good.

“But again, the big telltale for us will be tomorrow. Is he sore? Did he have anything flare up?

“There’s some things you can’t measure, and that’s how he’ll react when he gets hit.”

The Panthers boss added: “When we make our decision Sunday morning, it’s going to be based on how we feel he’s done the last couple of days, how he feels in terms of handling what we want to do with the game plan and whether or not we believe he’ll be able to protect himself if he takes a shot.”

It is also understood that even if Newton started the game, backup quarterback Derek Anderson could finish it, as Rivera is also confident in his second quarterback’s abilities.

Eyes will also be on the club’s new set of receivers, who will be hoping to impress, following the departure of the likes of Steve Smith and Brandon.

Other games on Sunday see the Jacksonville Jaguars traveling to the Philadelphia Eagles, the Baltimore Ravens play host to the Cincinnati Bengals, Buffalo Bills are at Chicago Bears, while the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys setup an early season battle.
