Duke (1-1) is coming off a disappointing 75-69 defeat to No. 8 Michigan State on Tuesday night in the Champions Classic and will be hoping to bounce back quickly. The ACC outfit is 31-5 following a loss over the last five seasons.
The Blue Devils shot just 32.0% from the field in the loss and their defense allowed five Spartans to record double figures in scoring.
Matthew Hurt paced Duke in the defeat with a double-double of 21 points and career-high 13 rebounds for Duke, but it was a slow night for freshman Jalen Johnson, who after scoring 24 in his college debut against Coppin State, was limited to 11 points on 4-of-11 shooting.
This game will be a season opener for Bellarmine, who is making a late start to the campaign due to the pandemic, which forced the postponement of fall sports, will be making its Division I debut.
Johnson and Hurt are both averaging double-double across the first two games so far this season.
The Blue Devils are lead by Johnson, who is averaging 16.5 points, 10 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 3.0 blocks this season, while Hurt is putting up 15.0 points and 11.5 boards with 3.0 assists and shooting 63.2% from the floor.
DJ Steward is scoring 15.0 points with 5.0 rebounds per contest this season.
