VILLANOVA, Pa. – The No. 7 Villanova Wildcats will take on the Butler Bulldogs in a Big East Conference college basketball game at Finneran Pavilion on Wednesday night.

Villanova (5-1) opened conference play this season with a 76-63 victory over Georgetown inside an empty Capital One Arena last Friday night and will be aiming to build on that victory with another win against a team that hasn’t played for a long time.
“It was really weird playing Georgetown in this gym with no fans,” Nova coach Jay Wright said. “This is one game you just know is always going to be a huge a crowd. It was really strange. But once the ball went up, it was a typical Big East battle.”
“With no one in there, it’s really bizarre,” Wright added. “It’s like one of those preseason scrimmages, except the game means a lot.”
The Wildcats was winning their ninth straight Big East opener.
Butler, meanwhile, has not played in three weeks when they defeated Western Michigan 66-62 in what was the team’s season opener. The Bulldogs (1-0) shortly announced that they would be pausing team activities after reporting positive COVID-19 tests within their program.
The teams split their meetings last season, with the Wildcats taking the first meeting at home 76-61, before the Bulldogs returned the favor at their place, 79-76.
Villanova finished conference play last year with a 13-5, while Butler ended three games back with a 10-8 record.
Aaron Thompson, who is averaging 21.0 points from his lone game this season, which leads the Big East in points per game, while Jair Bolden is sitting second in the league for rebounds per game, at 9.0. Bolden is also scoring 15.0 points per game this season.
Through six games this season, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl is putting out 15.0 points and 8.2 rebounds, while Collin Gillespie is averaging 15.2 points, while Collin Gillespie is averaging 15.2 points.
