NORTHAMPTON, Sporting Alert – Manchester United will take on Northampton Town in an English League Cup – EFL Cup – 3rd match round at Sixfields Stadium on Wednesday.

Jose Mourinho side has dropped three games in a row, including two in the English Premier League and needs to deliver a clinical display against the League One side on the road.

Mourinho is expected to make changes once again to his starting XI, with the likes of Michael Carrick, Jesse Lingard, Ashley Young and Daley Blind all scheduled to be handed starts.

However, left-back Luke Shaw and striker Anthony Martial will both miss the trip to Northampton.

Shaw is out of this 3rd round EFL Cup tie with a slight groin tear he picked up in the 3-1 defeat to Watford on Sunday, while Martial left that contest in the first half, following a fierce clash of heads.

Defender Phil Jones misses out as well with a knee injury, while playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan is also doubtful for the match.

After falling three times in a row in recent outings, Manchester United are desperate for a win to help ease the pressure off manager Mourinho, who has been taking a bit of a stick in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, also in EFL Cup 3rd round action Wednesday are English Premier League outfits Manchester City, Sunderland, West Ham United, Southampton, Crystal Palace, Stoke City, Hull City and Tottenham.

There are three all Premier League head-to-head battles, with Stoke City facing Hull City, Southampton at Crystal Palace and Swansea City entertaining EPL leaders and the inform Manchester City.
