After playing themselves into the playoffs, the Los Angeles Lakers must regroup again for their Western Conference first series against the Phoenix Suns. You can watch live streaming coverage of the clash between No. 2 seed Phoenix Suns v No. 7 LA Lakers on WatchABC and WatchESPN.com, while the nationally broadcasting coverage will be on ABC Network. Games on Sunday is slated for 3:30 p.m. ET.
LeBron James and Anthony Davis were injured for the most part of the later stages of the regular season, but the pair a now fit and will be hoping to drive the Lakers back to the top, as they seek to defend their NBA title.
Chris Paul and the Suns were impressive this season and played some fantastic basketball throughout the campaign to seal the second seed in the Western Conference. The Suns won the regular series 2-1 from the three meetings.
However, I believe the Lakers will be too strong for Phoenix in this series and I am backing LeBron and Los Angeles to get the better of Paul, Devin Booker and the Suns in seven games.
Let’s see if my predictions will hold up or will Phoenix prove to be the real deal.
No. 2 PHOENIX SUNS (51-21) vs. No. 7 LOS ANGELES LAKERS (42-30, 1-0)
Season series: Suns, 2-1.
Story line: This might be the first time in NBA history that a No. 2 seed defeats a No. 7 seed and it would be considered an upset. even though the Suns won nine more games and since the NBA went to a best-of-seven format for all rounds in 2003 No. 2 seeds have won 35 of their 36 quarterfinal series against No. 7 seeds. Such is the power of LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Key matchup: Chris Paul vs. James. Theyve never gone head-to-head in the playoffs. James is dealing with the effects of a high ankle sprain, and Paul will have to deal with the pressure that comes with not yet making the NBA Finals.
Prediction: Lakers in 7.
