Brandon Newman scored 17 points on 7 for 11 shooting with three 3-pointers, while Eric Hunter Jr. added 16 for Purdue, which shot 45.6% from the field and 45.5% from 3-point range.

Jaden Ivey chipped in with 11 points, five rebounds and four assists, Trevion Williams added 10 points and eight rebounds and Zach Edey contributed seven rebounds and six points for the Boilermakers (7-3, 2-1 Big Ten).

Donta Scott had 15 points and eight rebounds to lead the way for Maryland (5-3, 0-2), which never led in the game.

Aaron Wiggins added 14 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals, while Eric Ayala ended with 13 points, five points, and three assists for the Terrapins (5-3, 0-2) who dropped both their conference fixtures to stay league play.

Darryl Morsell finished with 10 points, four assists, and four rebounds for Maryland, which shot 43.1% on 25 of 58 shooting from the field and went 10 for 28 from 3-point range.

Purdue Dominated Early, But Maryland Fought Back

Purdue led 25-10 at the halfway point in the first half and then 30-15 with 7:58 left in the half, following a 3-pointer from Newman. The Boilermakers led 41-28 at halftime.

Maryland made a game in the second half as it chipped away at the score to cut the deficit to one point with 12:59 remaining.

However, Purdue answered with an 8-0 run to build the lead back to nine points.

Maryland continued to stick around and impressively managed to tie the game at 70-70 with 58 seconds left in the contest.

But Hunter scored from a layup basket after a goaltending call with 38.4 seconds left to put Purdue ahead 72-70 and then Williams connected on a free throw attempt to seal the win.
