LONDON (Sporting Alert) — England manager Roy Hodgson has called up Southampton striker Rickie Lambert to his squad for next week’s friendly with Scotland, while Wayne Rooney has been named in the squad.

Lambert, who was in fine form last year with Southampton, was due for a call up following his run in the English Premier League, and the 31-year-old has finally won an international call-up for the first time.

Manchester United winger Wilfried Zaha, who was impressive during the preseason for David Moyes is also included in the squad, with his club teammate Rooney, who is yet to feature with the Reds this preseason, received a call from Hodgson as well.

Another injured player, Jermain Defoe is in the squad as well, so too are, Phil Jones, Michael Carrick, Theo Walcott, Steven Gerrard, Jack Wilshere, Ashley Young, Phil Jagielka and Chris Smalling.
