Third-Round Capital One Cup Results and Scores – Sept. 25

MANCHESTER (Sporting Alert) — Javier Chicharito Hernandez scored the game winner seconds into the second half, and Manchester United beat Liverpool 1-0 in English Capital One Cup action on Wednesday night.

Arsenal, Newcastle United and Stoke City were the other English Premier League side to have registered wins on the night.

At Old Trafford, Mexican forward Hernandez cleverly guided home a Wayne Rooney corner less than a minute into the second half to Manchester United to edged Liverpool and progress to the fourth round where they will face Norwich City at home.

The game saw Luis Suarez making his long-awaited return from a 10 game suspension, but was unable to stop the Reds from going down to United, who made eight changes from the side that was beaten 4-1 at Manchester City in the EPL over the weekend.

It took Arsenal penalties to see off West Bromwich in their game, after the two side ended regular and extra-time locked at 1-1.

Thomas Eisfeld gave the Gunners the lead in the 62nd minute, but Saido Berahino netted the equaliser nine-minutes later.

Arsenal then took the shoot out 3-4.

Newcastle United, with goals from Papiss Demba Cisse and Yoan Gouffran defeated Leeds United 2-0, while Stoke City eased past Tranmere Rovers 2-0.

However, Swansea City busy fixtures finally caught up to them after they were humbled 3-1 at Birmingham City, with all four goals coming in the second half.
