UPDATED: NFL Scores and Results in Week 16 on Dec. 22

(Sporting Alert) — The following are the NFL scores and results from the games that took place in Week 16 on Sunday, December 22.

One of the highlights on the day were the Denver Broncos (12-3) which easily cruised past the Houston Texans (2-13) by a score of 37-13, with leading quarterback Peyton Manning setting a new record for the most touchdown passes in a single season. Manning, who threw for 400 yards, landed his 51st in the win over the  Texans to surpass Tom Brady’s old mark of 50. The veteran quarterback threw three touchdown passes in the fourth quarter.

The Carolina Panthers (11-4) returned a defeat to the New Orleans Saints (10-5), after beating them 17-13 – avenging the defeat from two weeks ago. The win also sees Cam Newton and the Panthers clinching a play-off spot with the come from behind late touchdown victory.

Meanwhile, Andy Dalton threw four touchdown passes and went 27 of 38 for 366 yards and the Cincinnati Bengals (10-5) crushed the Minnesota Vikings (4-10-1), 42-14 on their way to picking up a play-off slot heading into Week 17 next week.

The New England Patriots (11-4) captured the AFC East title with a 41-7 thumping of defending champions Baltimore Ravens (8-7) and the Buffalo Bills (6-9) defeated the Miami Dolphins (8-7), 19-0.

In other NFL scores on Sunday, while Geno Smith threw two touchdown passes and ran for another and the New York Jets (7-8) beat the Cleveland Browns (4-11), 24-13, while the Dallas Cowboys (8-7) kept their hopes of making the playoffs with a 24-23 victory over the Washington (3-12), with Tony Romo throwing a late touchdown pass to sink the struggling Redskins.

The Kansas City Chiefs (11-4), despite scoring first, suffered a 23-7 defeat to AFC South champions the Indianapolis Colts (10-5), while the New York Giants (6-9) ended the all hopes the Detroit Lions (7-8) had of making the play-off with a 23-20 overtime win.

San Diego Chargers (8-7) picked up their eight win of the season and stayed in the hunt for a wild-card place in the NFC with the 26-13 result over the Oakland Raiders (4-11), while the Seattle Seahawks (12-3) were beaten 17-10 by the Arizona Cardinals (10-5), which denied them the NFC West title.

In more NFL scores in Week 16, the Pittsburgh Steelers (7-8) stayed in the runnings for a wild-card place with a 38-31 victory over the Green Bay Packers (7-7-1),
