The England international will start a two-match suspension after a misconduct charge handed out by the FA over an offensive finger gesture he made towards Manchester City fans during his side’s 6-3 defeat.

Arsene Wenger will also be keeping his fingers cross that leading centre-back Laurent Koscielny can recover from a knee injury he suffered at Manchester City, although stating on the club website that the French defender is almost certain to miss the game.

“The team news [compared to Man City] is that Koscielny is out for the game. It’s 80 or 90 per cent he is out,” he said on

He added: “Jack Wilshere of course is suspended. Everybody else will be available.”

This means that German striker Lukas Podolski could be on the bench returning from a hamstring injury that kept him out for three months.

“He is available to be selected,” Wenger said of Podolski.

“It’s a big boost because he can score goals in big games. He has shown that before. He is a clinical finisher and a great football player.”

Meanwhile, for Chelsea, Branislav Ivanovic available and is set to return to the starting lineup after serving a one-match ban, which means that Ashley Cole could return to the bench, as Cesar Azpilicueta is expected to play at left-back and the Serbian at right-back.

Captain John Terry will come back to lead the backline, while Fernando Torres, Eden Hazard and Oscar are set for recalls as well.
