UPDATE-2: Costa Rica Beat USA 2-0 In World Cup 2018 Qualifier

NEW JERSEY, Sporting Alert — Costa Rica scored an impressive 2-0 victory over the USA with Marcos Urena scoring twice and Keylor Navas coming up big between the sticks.

Urena beat Tim Howard in the 30th minute to take the lead at halftime and after some stunning saves from Real Madrid No. 1 Navas, including an impressive stop with his leg, Urena went on to doubled the score with his second of the night in the 82nd minute.

Following a brilliant save from goalkeeper Navas, Costa Rica hit the U.S. on the counter and Urena broke clear and powered the ball past Howard to kill the game.

With the win, Costa Rica moved up to second in the group standings with 14 points, the same amount as Mexico, while the U.S. slipped six points behind the leaders.

The United States, in the meantime, sits third in the group standings, three points behind Costa Rica and five behind the group leader Mexico.

A draw on the road tonight would be a welcoming result for Costa Rica, but the U.S. will need to for the three points as Panama remains in the hunt and win for them and defeat for Bruce Arena’s men would see the Americans dropping to fourth.
