BOSTON — Tyson Walker and Jason Strong each scored 17 points and Northeastern defeated Elon 66-58 on Sunday to complete the two-game sweep over the Phoenix this season.
Strong, who shot 7 of 13 from the field added a team-high seven rebounds in his 37 minutes on the floor.
Walker, who scored 12 of his total points in the second half went 7 of 15 from the field to go with five rebounds and a team-high five assists for Northeastern (2-5, 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association).
Forward Shaquille Walters shot 5 of 10 from the field to finish with 15 points and five rebounds for the Huskies, who routed Elon 75-52 in their Colonial Athletic Association opener on Saturday.
Hunter McIntosh had 17 points on 6 of 13 shooting and five rebounds to lead the way for Elon (3-2, 0-1).
Forward Hunter Woods added 10 points from 3 of 6 shots with nine rebounds and Ikenna Ndugba ended with 10 points eight rebounds for the Phoenix, who trailed 35-25 at halftime and went down by as many as 13 points with 6:50 left in the game.
After trailing by 13 points midway in the second half and again with just under seven minutes to play, Elon managed to cut the deficit to three points with a 10-0 run with 4:36 remaining.
However, Walker scored eight points for Northeastern during the final minutes to seal the win.
As a team, the Huskies shot 44.6% from the field on 25 of 56 shooting.
Elon shot 38.2% on 21 of 55 from the field and outrebounded Northeastern 39-33.
Both teams shot under 30% from 3-pointers, with Northeastern shooting 28% from deep and the Phoenix going 25%.
