LONDON (SportingAlert) — England and India open their five match series with the 1st Investec Test at Trent Bridge, in Nottingham on Wednesday morning.
The series will see under-fire England captain Alastair Cook trying to avoid another series defeat, as he also goes in search of runs for his own personal reasons.
England come into this series with the hope of avoiding a third successive series defeat, following and embarrassing 5-0 defeat in Australia in the Ashes and a 1-0 loss at home to Sri Lanka.
Cook has been heavily criticized by several former players and pundits, after England failed to secure a victory in any of their past eight Test matches.
The under-pressure 29-year-old skipper says he has no intentions of stepping down though.
“Until that day the selectors decide I’m not the right man for the job, I will continue,” Cook said.
“I think you have to be determined and stick to your guns. We all know you are judged on results and results have not been good enough.”
England host India in a five-test series for only the second time and the first time since 1959, when they won 5-0.
