LONDON (SportingAlert) — A battling undefeated hundred from Murali Vijay has guided India to 259 for 4 on the close of day one of the 1st Investec Test at Trent Bridge, in Nottingham on Wednesday.
Vijay, at the end of the opening day, is on 122 not out, which has come from 294 balls in 373 minutes at the crease. He has so far hit 20 fours and a six in his unbeaten knock.
“I’ve worked a lot with videos of James Anderson. The first 15 minutes are the toughest thing as an opener. I wanted to play straight and late,” Vijay said.
“It’s a good batting wicket. After lunch, there was period when it was doing a bit, so that was a good experience for me.
“Duncan Fletcher has helped a lot because he knows how things work in these conditions. We were working for two weeks before we came out here.”
There with the opening batsman at the close is captain and wicketkeeper MS Dhoni, who is unbeaten on 50 from 64 ball.
England fast bowler James Anderson has so far taken two wickets for 70 runs from 21 overs, while there was one wicket each for Stuart Broad and Liam Plunkett
India had won the toss and elected to bat first on a very flat pitch.
