NEW YORK, Sporting Alert – No. 1 Duke will take on Georgetown in the 2K Empire Classic game at Madison Square Garden in New York, Friday night at Madison Square Garden.

The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and streamed live on WatchESPN, with tip-off set for 7:20 pm ET.

Duke (5-0) secured its place in the title game with an 87-52 win over California on Thursday night to give coach Mike Krzyzewski won his 217th victory with Duke ranked No. 1.

This feat matched John Wooden for the career coaching record.

Vernon Carey paced the Blue Devils with a double-double of 31 points and 12 rebounds. He has now recorded a double-double in three straight games.

Meanwhile, Georgetown (4-1) surprised No. 22 Texas 82-66 in the first game on Thursday night with Mac McClung leading the way with 19 points for coach Patrick Ewing’s side.

“I just wanted to let my team know we have a lot of support from Georgetown alumni here and we want them to stand up and do it again,” Ewing said after the win.

Duke comes into this game as the favorite and has won the Empire Classic in each of its last two appearances.

Entering Friday’s game, the Blue Devils and Georgetown have met 15 times previously, with Krzyzewski side leading the series, 8-7.
