CORVALLIS, Ore. – LSU will seek to stay alive in the 2018 NCAA Baseball Regional tournament when it takes on Northwestern State in an elimination game in the NCAA Corvallis Regional at Goss Stadium on Sunday, live on ESPN3 and ESPNU, starting at 3 pm ET.
The No. 1 seeded Tigers suffered a 14-1 defeat to Oregon State in a one-sided affair Saturday night and must beat No. 4 seed Northwestern State to extend their run in the postseason.
“That (Saturday’s game) was an extremely rough game for us,” said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. “I think Oregon State had a lot to do with that as they played very well tonight.
“We had some opportunities to score early in the game but we couldn’t capitalize on them, and then the game just got away from us. It was a tough one for us to endure, but Oregon State deserved to win.”
Meanwhile, after losing to Oregon State 9-3 in Friday night’s opening round, the Demons returned with a 9-0 shutout victory over San Diego State for their first NCAA Regional win since 2005 and the first NCAA Regional shutout in program history.
The winner of this game will take on the Beavers, the No. 3 national seed, in the NCAA Corvallis Regional championship game at 9 pm Sunday night for a place in the Super Regionals.
