Friday’s game is a Big East Conference opener for both teams and they will be hoping to get league play started with a win. Last season Villanova (4-1) won both matchups against Georgetown prior to the season ending because of the coronavirus.
In conference play last term, Villanova finished with 13 wins and suffered five losses, while Georgetown won five games and was beaten in 13.
Coming into this game, the Wildcats, who had games against Temple and DePaul canceled, have beaten two ranked teams, including the 68-64 victory over No. 17 Texas on Sunday. Georgetown, meanwhile, rolled over Coppin State 80-48 on Tuesday night to bounce back from back-to-back defeats.
Villanova Collin Gillespie, Caleb Daniels, and Jermaine Samuels have collectively scored 42 percent of all Wildcats scoring this season, per AP reports. Meanwhile, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl is pacing the team with 16.2 points and 9.0 rebounds and making 75% of his free throws this season.
Gillespie is scoring 14.6 points and 4.2 assists, while Justin Moore is averaging 14.2 points and 4.4 rebounds across five games so far. Daniels is shooting 55.0% from the field, 42.9% from 3-pointers, and scoring 11.6 points per game.
For Georgetown, Jahvon Blair is averaging 20.3 points and 5.5 rebounds, while making 87.5% of his free throws. Jamorko Pickett is averaging a double-double with 14.3 points and 10 rebounds, while Qudus Wahab is averaging 11.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.8 blocks.
The Hoyas have tallied 41 assists on 79 field goals for 51.9 percent in their previous three games, which is slightly better than Villanova which has assists on 41 of 84 field goals for 48.8 percent during its past three games.
