Chasing 179 for victory after Australia won the toss and elected to bat first, skipper Sammy came in an smashed an undefeated 34 off just 13 balls. The all-rounder hit three big sixes, including two in the last over off James Faulkner, and two fours in his man of the match knock.
The victory was welcome by a huge celebration.
You would have thought the Windies had just won the tournament.
“We have not won the tournament, its just a game against Australia but we were pumped up for this,” Sammy said after the win.
“They played well and a couple of our boelers bowled well. We backed ourselves to score 180-odd. Chris [Gayle] and [Dwayne] Smith set us up and we are really pumped up for the win.
“It was really nice to see Faulkner bowling the last over. A lot of things were said before this match and you never wake up a sleeping lion [Chris Gayle]”
