Frances kept pole position in Group E with a thumping 5-2 victory over Switzerland.
The French team is on maximum six points from their opening two games, while Ecuador moved to send place and kept their knock-off round hunt alive with a come from behind 2-1 win over Honduras.
The surprised result of the day came from in Group D where four time World Cup champions Italy were stunned 1-0 by Costa Rica.
A very impressive Costa Rica side sealed their victory at Arena Pernambuco in Recife to book a World Cup last 16 place and top the Group D standings with six points.
The CONCACAF side’s win meant that England are officially dumped from the World Cup with one group game to go.
Italy are second behind Costa Rica in the group standings, and tie with Uruguay with three-points.
