MUNICH, Sporting Alert – Erdal Ozturk scored the only goal of the game and Bayern Munich defeated Manchester City 1-0 in a pre-season friendly game at Allianz Arena on Wednesday.
“I’m pleased to be here once again,” he said. “When we arrived I felt I had returned home.
“These were three incredible years for me and my family. I’ve seen many, many friends again. Congratulations to FC Bayern on the victory.
“I only have the best wishes for this great coach, these great players and these great fans. I’ll continue to watch their way.”
Ozturk scored in the 76 minutes after his shot hit the boot of Manchester City defender Gael Clichy and rolled into the corner of the goal.
Both managers, Guardiola and Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti, were using the match as a big part of their preparations for their respective season in Germany and England.
“It was quite a good start today in terms of our play,” said Ancelotti. “Of course, it’s always difficult against a strong team like Manchester City.
“Considering that it’s the early stage of pre-season we played quite well. We showed that we’re in good condition, but we still have time to improve.”
Guardiola and City now head over to China on Thursday for the second leg of their pre-season tour where they will take on Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund in the China leg of the International Champions Cup.
City will meet Man United at the Bird’s Nest Stadium in Beijing on Monday in the first Manchester derby outside the UK, before playing Dortmund on next Thursday.
Next up for Bayern Munich, in the meantime, is friendly against SpVgg Landshut, before jetting off to the United States to play AC Milan, Inter Milan and Real Madrid in the USA/Europe leg of the ICC pre-season tournament.
