MANCHESTER, Sporting Alert – Manchester United could be signing yet another midfielder, if reports published by the French version of Goal.com and The Sun UK newspaper are indeed true.
According to Goal.com, French midfielder Blaise Matuidi has flown into Manchester for talks with an English Premier League team, and The Sun is reporting that the Red Devils are the side looking to seal his signature.
Matuidi started for France and played an important part in the hosts commanding 5-2 victory over Iceland in a Euro 2016 quarterfinals match, but Goal.com claims the central midfielder was given permission to leave the national camp to discuss talks over a possible switch to Old Trafford this summer
The 29-year-old is currently contracted with French champions Paris Saint-Germain, but it is understood Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is very interested in his service and would love to bring him to the EPL.
Matuidi currently has two years left on his contract with PSG, but could be allowed to leave with The Sun claiming new manager Unai Emery “is planning a summer of major changes to his squad” and the Frenchman is one of the players high on the list of possible departures.
Should a deal go through for Matuidi, it could cost Manchester United in the area of £20million.
It could also mean a major shake-up for Mourinho’s midfield, with the likes of Marouane Fellaini, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Juan Mata and Daley Blind all looking over their shoulders, especially with reports claiming Paul Pogba could be on his way back to Old Trafford.
Manchester United have already signed defender Eric Bailly, midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan and forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the summer transfer window.
