Bolt Will Take On Lemaitre, Ashmeade In London DL 200m

Usain Bolt

LONDON, Sporting Alert – Sprint king Usain Bolt has confirmed that he will be ready to compete at the Müller Anniversary Games on Friday 22 July.

Bolt withdrew from Jamaica Olympic Trials in Kinston last weekend with a hamstring injury, but after travelling overseas to see his doctor, the world record holder has been cleared to test his fitness at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in London, ahead of the Rio Games.

The six-time Olympic champion is scheduled to race over 200 metres at the Anniversary Games and the meeting organisers have revealed that they have added three other top sprinters to the field.

On the schedule to face Bolt is his Jamaican teammate Nickel Ashmeade, who recently finished second in both the 100m and the 200m at the Jamaica Trials.

Also in the field is two-time Diamond Race winner Alonso Edward of Panama, as well as 2011 IAAF World Championships bronze medallist Christophe Lemaitre of France.

Local favourites Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake, the second-fastest Briton of all time with a personal best of 19.95 and Adam Gemili, the 2014 European 200m champion, will also be in the lineup.

Bolt has been named in Jamaica’s provisional Olympic Games squad, which was submitted on Thursday, and if he can confirm that he’s back to top form, he will secure his place to Rio to defend his sprint titles.
