LONDON (Sporting Alert) — English Premier League sides Arsenal and Chelsea, along with Barcelona and last season’s beaten finalist , are all amongst the teams in action on Matchday 4 in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Arsenal, fresh off their impressive win over Liverpool in the EPL over the weekend, will tackle Borussia Dortmund in Group F at Signal Iduna Park, hoping to avenge the defeat they suffered at home on Matchday 3.
Chelsea, on the other hand, place host to Schalke in a Group E clash at Stamford Bridge, with Jose Mourinho’s side looking to bounce back from the defeat suffered to Newcastle United in the Premier League. The Blues will be without form striker Fernando Torres, while the likes of David Luiz, Juan Mata and Frank Lampard are set for bench roles.
Former champions Barcelona will take on regular Champions League rivals AC Milan in Group H at Camp Nou. The Italian side has been struggling of late, and the 2-0 defeat to Fiorentina, their fifth of the season, did not help with the confidence heading into Wednesday night’s tough contest.
Massimiliano Allegri, head coach of Milan is bracing for a tough game.
“We’re playing against the strongest team in the world,” Allegri said at his press conference. “In recent games against them we have done well, such as in the first leg of the knockout tie last season or our encounter on matchday three.”
“If we want to get a good result we have to perform very well as a group because playing against Barcelona is very difficult. We have to pay close attention and if we do as well in defence and attack as we did in the first leg, we have a chance of winning.”
Elsewhere on Wednesday night, Napoli will play Marseille in Group F at San Paolo, Atletico Madrid and Austria Vienna square off in Group G at Vicente Calderon, while Celtic and Ajax take on each other in Group H at Amsterdam Arena.
The Zenit Petersburg and FC Porto clash is the early kick-off on Matchday 4 on Wednesday
