(Sporting Alert) — The following are the results on Matchday 2 of the Champions League on Wednesday, a night where defending champions Bayern Munich crushed Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
There were wins also for Leverkusen, Paris Saint Germain, Olympiakos and Real Madrid on the night.
But the highlight certainly came from Manchester where ran riot at the English Premier League side’s home in a thumping 3-1 victory to go three points clear in Group D.
Franck Ribery, Thomas Muller and Arjen Robben scored for Bayern Munich in a dominating contest, while a late consolation goal for Manchester City came from Alvaro Negredo.
In Group B at the Santiago Bernabeu Cristiano Ronaldo continued his rich goal scoring touch with a brace, while Angel di Maria stitched home two goals as well in Real Madrid’s comfortable 4-0 win over FC Copenhagen.
Another hot striker on Wednesday night was Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who scored Paris Saint Germain’s first and third goals in the 3-0 victory at home against Benfica.
The other goalscorer was Marquinhos and all three goals came in the opening 45 minutes of action.
Meanwhile a hattrick by Konstantinos Mitroglou pushed Olympiakos to a 3-0 win at Anderlecht in Group C, while Jens Hegeler scored a late goal for Leverkusen to edged Real Sociedad 2-1.
At the Juventus Stadium, Roberto Mancini’s first game in charge of Galatasaray ended 2-2 against Juventus, while Manchester United played to a 1-1 draw at Shakhtar Donetsk and CSKA Moscow beat Plzen 3-2 in the early kick-off.
