LONDON (Sporting Alert) — Arsenal, Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund all registered impressive victories in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.
First half strikes from Mezut Ozil and Olivier Giroud, who netted inside the opening 15-minutes of the action, piloted Arsenal to a 2-0 win over Napoli and on top of Group F with six points.
In the same group, last year’s beaten finalists Borussia Dortmund, on the back of a brace from leading striker Robert Lewandowski and one from Marco Reus, beat Marseille 3-0 at home to move into second place and rebound from the opening defeat to Napoli.
Over in Group E, Jose Mourinho celebrated his first win of the group stage, after Chelsea hammered Steaua Bucharest 4-0 on the road.
A double from Ramires, a late goal from Frank Lampard and an own goal by Daniel Georgievski provided the goals for the English Premier League side.
Basel suffered a 1-0 defeat at home against Schalke, who got its goal in the 54th minute from Julian Draxler.
Cesc Fabregas headed home the lone goal for Barcelona to edged 10-man Celtic 1-0, while Mario Balotelli’s late controversial penalty kick earned AC Milan a 1-1 draw with Ajax in Group H.
In Group G action, Atletico Madrid came from a goal down to top FC Porto 2-1, but Zenit St Petersburg failed to get past FK Austria Wien in a 0-0 draw.
