MIAMI, FL, Sporting Alert – NCAA college basketball ESPN3 schedule for today with No. 9 Wisconsin among the teams in action.
The Badgers (1-1) will look to bounce back from the 79-67 upset defeat to No. 22 Creighton on Tuesday night when they host Chicago State at Kohl Center in Madison.
After the road defeat two-days ago, Wisconsin coach Greg Gard said: “Coming in here, I knew it would be a heck of a challenge.
“…We showed at times some very uncharacteristic Wisconsin-like handlings of possessions where we got a little disheveled at times.”
All-time Against Chicago State
Thursday night’s game will be only the second-ever meeting between Wisconsin and Chicago State. The only previous encounter was almost 13 years ago when the Badgers recorded 73-45 win over the Cougars on Jan. 4, 2003.
The Big Ten outfit have won 37 of its last 44 regular-season, non-conference games and holds a commanding 111-11 record in non-conference games at the Kohl Center.
Through two games this season, Bronson Koenig has reached double figures in both outings for Wisconsin, while averaging 18.5 points per game and shooting 45.2 percent.
Senior Nigel Hayes is putting up 15 points, five assists and four rebounds per game for the Badgers.
Chicago State opened its season with a 97-89 win over NCAA Division III school Illinois Tech on Saturday night.
Clemmye Owens V led the way for the Cougars (1-0) with a career-high 26 points, while Fred Sims Jr. added 19.
Also on the ESPN3 schedule today, Maryland will take on St. Mary’s College of Maryland at XFINITY Center.
The Terrapins (2-0) are coming off a thrilling 76-75 recovery win over Georgetown on Tuesday night.
In that game, Melo Trimble scored 22 points and knocked down two late free throws and Kevin Huerter denied Jagan Mosley as time expired to help Maryland erased a nine-point deficit in the closing minutes.
It was the second time from as many outing Trimble was delivering a 22 point performance and Terrapins coach Mark Turgeon wants more people to step up in support.
“We need to get more people involved offensively besides Melo (Trimble),” he said. “And we need to be stronger with the ball.”
In other games on the ESPN3 schedule today, Wake Forest and UTEP will go head-to-head in the Gildan Charleston Classic, while Boise State and meet in the College of Charleston in another Gildan Charleston Classic battle.
Connecticut, which has dropped its first two games of the season, will take on Loyola Marymount, while Fontbonne and Missouri State will meet.
