First in action on day two of the senior trials is world record holder Ashton Eaton, who starts his quest for another national Decathlon crown.

All eyes are expected will be on the sprints, with Barbara Pierre, Lekeisha Lawson and Jessica Young running in heat semi-finals one of the women’s 100m and NCAA champion English Gardner, making her Nike debut, Jeneba Tarmoh and Octavious Freeman in the other heat.

One the men’s side, Justin Gatlin and Tyson Gay have not been separated and will take on each other in the second semis.

The loaded heat also includes former national Michael Rodgers and Isiah Young.

In the other semis, Jeff Demps, Walter Dix and Dentarius Locke, who was one of the quickest sprinters from the heat, are a few to watch out for.

All the sprint events were affected by the heavy headwind.

“There was a little hurricane out there, but it felt good to come out here, shake the legs out,” Gatlin said.

“Running in this stadium, the way it is structured is so different. You feel the audience right next to you especially since I was in lane eight. I could see everybody.

“I felt like I was walking in the path of the past. I saw high school friends, college friends everyone like that.”

On the schedule also on Friday are the semi-finals of the men’s and women’s 400m and 800m, the heats of the women’s 100m and 400m hurdles, in addition to the men’s 400m hurdles semis.

Action in the field will see the men’s hammer throw, discus throw and pole vault champions being crowned.
