Duval, Bagley Lead No. 1 Duke To Win Over Portland State

Trevon Duval of the Duke Blue Devils

PORTLAND, Ore, Sporting Alert – Trevon Duval scored 22 points and Marvin Bagley grabbed an impressive double-double and No. 1 Duke endured a slow start to beat Portland State 99-81 in the early round of the PK80 tournament on Thanksgiving Day.

Duke looked out of sort in the opening minutes of the game and fell behind by 8 points in the first half before trimming the deficit to four points at the halftime break.

Duval played a team-high 37 minutes and shot 7 of 14 from the floor for the Blue Devils, who improved to 6-0 on the season, but the lopsided score doesn’t tell the whole story about the game.

Bagley added 18 points and 15 rebounds to complete his fourth double-double of the season, Wendell Carter finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks and Grayson Allen had 14 points and nine assists for the top-ranked team in the nation.

Allen shot just 2 of 7 from the field, but made 9 of his 11 attempts from the charity line.

Gary Trent had 11 points and Marques Bolden pulled down 10 rebounds and scored 8 points off the bench for the Blue Devils, who led by as many as 21 points and shot 51 percent on 32 of 63 shooting.

Deontae North scored 24 points and hit four 3s to lead Portland State (4-1) before fouling out of the game.

North was hit with his technical foul after he appeared to throw a punch at Wendell Carter Jr. during a fight for a loose ball under the basket.

He then picked up a second in the most bizarre way.

As he sat near the scorers table waiting to check in, he somehow he drew his second technical of the game and had to return to the bench.

Meanwhile, Bryce Canda added 14 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, as a total of five Vikings players were fouled out of the game.

Portland State led the Blue Devils for more than half of the contest, but was outscored 54-32 in the second half.
